One time Gifts
Mug Club: Monthly Gifts

Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs) allow individuals age 70.5 or older to donate directly from their IRA without increasing taxable income. These gifts count towards required minimum distributions (RMDs) and can be a strategic, tax-efficient way to make a meaningful impact.
QCD at a Quick Glance
Age: You must be 70.5 or older on the date of the gift.
Annual Cap: Up to $108,000 (2025) per person across all QCDs for the year.
Account Type: QCDs cannot come from an ongoing SEP or SIMPLE IRA that is receiving employer contributions this year.
No Benefits: QCDs cannot pay for event tickets, sponsorship with benefits, or auctions.
DAFs/Supporting Orgs are not eligible recipients.
Rollover Needed: 401(k) or 403(b) assets must be rolled to an IRA before a QCD can be made.
Post-70.5 IRA Deductions: If you make deductible IRA contributions after age 70.5, the amount that can be treated as a QCD may be reduced
What is a Qualified Charitable Distribution?
A Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) is a direct transfer from your IRA to a qualified charity. Beginning the year you turn 70.5, you may give this way; if you are 73+, a QCD can also count toward your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) for the year.
2025 annual limit: up to $108,000 per person (indexed for inflation). Married couples filing jointly may each give up to the annual limit from their own IRAs.
Why do people use QCDs?
1) Lower taxable income – a QCD is excluded from income, which can help with tax brackets, IRMAA/Medicare premium, and deduction phase-outs
2) Satisfy RMDs – if you’re 73 or older, a QCD can fulfill all or part of your RMD for the year.
3) Simplicity – there is no itemized deduction that is required; you give directly from your IRA to the Center.
DEADLINE: Your charity must receive the QCD by December 31 to count for that tax year.
Who and what qualifies?
Eligible accounts are traditional IRAs, Rollover IRAs, Inherited IRAs, and inactive SEP or SIMPLE IRAs. (401(k) or (402(b) funds must be rolled to an IRA first>)
Ineligible recipients are donor-advised funds, supporting organizations, and most private foundations.
IMPORTANT: The transfer must go directly from your IRA to St. Thomas Aquinas Church – Newman Center. QCDs cannot provide benefits (e.g. tickets, dinners) in exchange for the gift.
